By using tilting cars capable of keeping comfortable traveling, it is possible to improve a curve passing speed by 15 to 30 km/h. In Japan, results of testing and operation performance have been accumulated and therefore, completely stable traveling can be obtained by taking necessary measures including countermeasures for increased lateral load on track.

3/ Effective measures for curve traveling

Even if the range of increased speed is 10 km/h, speedup in a low-speed section has a considerable reduction in transport time, meaning time reduction greatly differs depending on the original speed level.

Therefore, by precise measures for curve traveling, it is expected as the most important measure to realize a speedup of 15 to 30 km/h.

(b) Speedup in straight line traveling

The traveling performance of narrow-gauge rail cars have greatly been improved and stable commercial traveling can be expected up to a level of approx. 150 km/h together with improvement of the strength and management of permanent way.

Study measures to be steadily adapted to the situation of Northern Line by clearing the following points.

1/ Brake performance capable of secure stopping

Emergency brake performance capable of secure stopping within a distance of 750 m from the running at the maximum speed in actual commercial operations

2/ Efficient acceleration and deceleration performances

Capability of demonstrating superior acceleration and deceleration performances and particularly expecting time reduction in a high-speed range.

3/ Running stability between car bogie and track
